Valentina & Scott – Destination wedding at the Borgo Egnazia in Puglia Italy
In late September of 2021, I had the great fortune to be with Valentia & Scott for their destination wedding at the Borgo Egnazia resort in the Puglia region of Italy. This is the southern region that forms the “heel of the boot”.
Scott is from New York and Valentina is from Italy and the wedding was a fantastic mix of friends and family from America, Italy, and throughout Europe.
This was my second wedding in Italy. The first was to Sorrento on the Amalfi coast, which you can see here.
On the first day, Valentia and Scott hosted all the guests on an amazing tour of the local area. It’s hard to properly describe any part of Italy without it sounding cliché, but, it is amazing in every way.
The evening was an amazing dinner along the water on the far end of the Borgo. Lit with candles and the ocean breeze, it was a perfect warm-up for the wedding day.
The wedding day started with a pasta cooking class on-site. It was really something to be in Italy and have Italian chefs guide you into making pasta from scratch. I’ll touch on it here for a minute – if you’ve never been to Italy, the one downside is the food is so incredibly good, it ruins what you think is good back home.
After the cooking class, I spent time with Valentina getting ready, and Scott joined later for some photos around their villa.
The ceremony itself was on the rooftop of the Borgo – which of course is unlike any rooftop you’ve seen. And the ceremony reflected the mood, the feel, the style, of the entire wedding – relaxed, unstaged, warm, effortless, fun, and intimate.
After a cocktail hour, a second line band (yes, New Orleans in Italy!) led everyone to the “center town square” for the beautiful reception space. And if there was one thing that could compete with the visual beauty, it was the taste. The food here was on full display. From the handmade pizza to the handmade mozzarella (when I say handmade, I mean it was made in front of you as you watched. Not earlier in the day!) to the desserts and everything in between. And if you’re wondering if I ate – lol – that’s an understatement. I ate, overate, and ate everything. I simply couldn’t stop. And the wedding cake – oh this cake – as big as I’ve ever seen or tasted – with fresh pomegranates on top – incredible. So light – the taste. AH!
Ok – the wedding – Scott, Valentina, their guests, the band – the best word is effortless. It’s what you would expect, or hope for, for a wedding like this. And It didn’t end here. The after-party was a golf cart ride away, with more dancing, and yes – more food.
Some highlight photos are below. And if you want to see the backstory of my trip and the wedding, then check out the 2 highlight stories I have on my Instagram. It’s a lot of fun and adds great context!
Cheers to Valentina & Scott!
