Destination Wedding Italy: A Dream Amalfi Coast Celebration with Chloe & Dave
Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast are world-renowned for their stunning landscapes, with dramatic cliffs, sparkling blue waters, and quaint Italian towns. It’s no surprise that couples from all over the world dream of getting married here. Chloe and Dave, a creative couple from Raleigh, NC, chose this perfect destination to celebrate their love, and I had the honor of capturing their incredible Amalfi Coast wedding.
Chloe is the owner of Cakes by Chloe, where she bakes some of the best wedding cakes in Raleigh, while Dave is a talented photographer and videographer who runs Severance Productions. Their wedding was a beautiful mix of their closest friends and family, who came together to share an unforgettable week in Italy, full of exploration, adventure, and, of course, a stunning wedding day that took full advantage of the beauty of the Amalfi Coast.
Exploring the Amalfi Coast Before the Wedding
One of the best parts of a destination wedding Italy is the opportunity to explore the area before the big day, and Chloe and Dave, along with their guests, made the most of their time in Italy. They arrived several days before the wedding, giving them plenty of time to soak in the local culture and sights.
We explored the historic town of Sorrento, wandered through its winding streets, and marveled at the sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea. A trip to the nearby town of Positano allowed us to experience even more of the famous Amalfi Coast charm, with its colorful houses built into the cliffs and its world-class Italian cuisine. Speaking of which, the food in Italy, particularly on the Amalfi Coast, is nothing short of extraordinary. Every meal was an experience, from fresh pasta to incredible seafood dishes and, of course, the best pizza you could ever imagine.
One of the highlights before the wedding day was a quick trip to Pompeii, the ancient Roman city frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. It was a surreal experience to walk through the streets of Pompeii, imagining what life was like all those centuries ago. Chloe and Dave took in the history and culture of this incredible area, making their wedding week even more special.
The Night Before: Dinner by the Sea
As the wedding day drew near, we had an incredible dinner down by the marina the night before. The soft glow of candlelight and the sound of the waves created the perfect setting for a relaxed evening with close family and friends. Everyone was in great spirits, excited for the next day, but also enjoying the simple pleasure of good food, great company, and the beauty of the Italian coastline.
The Wedding Day in Sorrento
Chloe and Dave’s destination wedding in Sorrento was nothing short of perfect. Chloe started her day getting ready at the lovely Hotel Villa Garden, which offered stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, with ships sailing below and Pompeii visible in the distance. The peaceful ambiance and beautiful light made for a serene morning, as Chloe prepared for her big day surrounded by her loved ones.
The wedding ceremony took place at the Cloisters di S. Francesco, an 8th-century cloister located in the heart of Sorrento. The venue is a hidden gem with its ancient stone arches and lush greenery, providing a timeless backdrop for an intimate ceremony. One of the most touching moments of the day was when Chloe and Dave had their private first dance inside the cloister, with only their parents, Best Man, and Maid of Honor in attendance. As two musicians played an acoustic song, the moment was incredibly emotional and felt like a scene from a movie, with the surrounding beauty of the cloisters adding to the magic.
After the ceremony, guests moved to the Hotel Mediterraneo for a rooftop reception that showcased the very best of the Amalfi Coast. The evening was set against the backdrop of a perfect sunset, with Mount Vesuvius standing tall in the distance. As Chloe and Dave shared their first dance as a married couple, the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the entire celebration.
The After Party and the Day After
Even though the wedding went well past midnight, everyone was in high spirits the next day. We gathered by the pool at the Hotel Mediterraneo for a poolside brunch and lunch. Italian brunch, of course, is something special, and it was a great way to end the weekend festivities. Once everyone was full from the incredible food, Chloe and Dave put their wedding attire back on for a unique post-wedding photo session.
We arranged for a driver to take us to Positano and Ravello, two of the most beautiful towns on the Amalfi Coast, for an extended couple’s photo session. These towns, with their narrow cobblestone streets and stunning views, provided the perfect setting for capturing more intimate moments between Chloe and Dave. One of the most memorable parts of the day was our mad dash through the streets of Ravello, trying to find the perfect spot to capture the sunset. After climbing countless stairs and winding our way through the streets, we finally found it—an incredible view that made the whole adventure worthwhile. The last two photos we took, just minutes before dark, perfectly captured the joy and beauty of the day.
