A Beautiful Celebration at Graylyn Estate
In May of 2024, I had the pleasure of photographing Savannah and Matt’s wedding at the historic Graylyn Estate in Winston-Salem, NC. As a Winston-Salem wedding photographer, despite the rain, the day was filled with beautiful moments, heartfelt emotions, and unforgettable memories.
Getting Ready at Graylyn Estate
Savannah began her day getting ready with her bridesmaids in one of Graylyn’s elegant rooms, which offered a stunning view. Across the estate, Matt and his groomsmen enjoyed a bourbon tasting in the lower lounge, adding a fun twist to their preparations.
First Look on the Grand Staircase
Savannah’s first look with her dad was a touching moment, set against the backdrop of Graylyn’s grand staircase. Because of the rain, we decided to have Savannah and Matt’s first look on the same staircase. Matt’s reaction to seeing Savannah for the first time was priceless. The grand staircase provided a beautiful and dramatic setting for this special moment.
Portraits in the Library
We then moved to Graylyn’s library for some intimate portraits and family photos. The rich, warm tones of the library made for a cozy and elegant setting. Despite the rain, we captured some wonderful memories indoors.
Ceremony in the Reception Area
The ceremony, originally planned for the White Garden, was moved indoors to the reception area due to the rain. The reception area, with its great view of the White Garden, created a lovely alternative. After the ceremony, the rain stopped, and we had cocktail hour outside. Savannah, Matt, and I took advantage of the break in the weather to capture some stunning portraits around Graylyn’s beautiful estate.
Heartfelt Toasts and Dancing in the Rain
Dinner was filled with heartfelt toasts, and the reception that followed was a lively mix of band performances and dancing. The French doors opened into the White Garden, where guests mingled outside. An impromptu rain shower added an unexpected twist to the evening, with many guests, including Savannah and Matt, dancing in the rain. It was a highlight of the night, reflecting the joyful spirit of the celebration.
Private Dance in the Turret
The night ended with a private dance in the turret of the White Garden. It was an emotional and intimate moment, perfectly capping off a day full of love and joy.
