John & Audrey: North Carolina Beach Wedding Photography at Emerald Isle and Newport, NC
Last week I was on the Pacific Ocean, and this week I’m on the Atlantic Ocean with John & Audrey for an awesome coastal wedding. And you know, it’s not just that Audrey and John are just laid back California cool (since, well, they live in California), but can I say, Audrey gave me a Google shirt! I mean, come on, seriously. When was the last time I went to a wedding and the bride gave me a gift?! And a cool tech-based gift at that! Maybe she’s trying to convert me from iOS to Android? No…..no…. haha! :) Really though, she’s just thinking about everyone else, even on her wedding day. So let’s talk about John and Audrey – as I wear my “straight from Palo Alto” Google shirt :)
The first half of the day was spent at the beach house with the bridal party getting ready. Perfect day – low 80s, partly cloudy, light breeze. Everyone had been here for about a week, so things were laid back, and all set, as almost all of this wedding was a DIY from Audrey, John and their friends. They even made their bouquets about an hour before heading to the beach for the first look and photos with the bridal party. What I liked was that we had such a cool mix. Audrey’s twin brother Josh was the man of honor, her other brother Tommy was a bridesman and Tina was a bridesmaid, while John had his brother Teddy as a best man, and his sister Lissy as a groomswoman.
It really was a destination wedding, like last weekend. About 50 people, at John’s parent’s home, overlooking the inner coastal waterway of North Carolina. Past the water which overlooked the ceremony and reception site was a nature preserve. No condos, no buildings – just the perfect North Carolina coast, thanks to President Roosevelt, who used to own it and ensured it would remain a nature preserve.
The ceremony had some really cool long benches and for the reception, we had a small tent, decorated with lanterns while the tables had handmade napkins with anchors and lights that Audrey and friends had put together that week. It set the scene for a great local dinner and some dancing well into the night.
