Bret & Rachel: Beach Wedding in New Bern NC

This post really begins around 8 years ago when I first met Rachel for Dawn’s wedding on Bald Head Island. She had planned and coordinated an awesome wedding (Bridal by the Sea), and that began a great relationship working weddings together over the years along the coast of North Carolina. She is without a doubt one of the absolute best wedding planners around. And when she called to tell me she was marrying the perfect Seahawks fan, and she wanted me there to photograph it, I was naturally humbled and jazzed.

Rachel of course planned her own wedding, and designed all the amazing flowers (her floral company is Tidly Designs). But their wedding was really about family. Not just immediate family, but the kind of family which extends beyond traditional bloodlines. With all the options for venues someone like Rachel has at her disposal, she picked the dearest and most original one – their home. A perfect setting where everyone watched the ceremony from the back porch, and then watched a first dance take place on that same back porch.

We spent time at the Marina for the personal photos, and the rest of the time at home enjoying an amazing dinner, perfect cake and Starbucks coffee bar while Justin Castellano did some fantastic guitar work. I saw some old friends and met news ones, not the least of which were Allie Miller (a fantastic wedding photographer based on the NC coast) and Alyson of Alpine Tree Films who filmed the wedding.
