I first met Shor & Lera at Shor’s sister Grayden’s wedding to Zach last May in the NC mountains. It was such an amazing wedding, and I quickly bonded with Shor over physics and music and with both of them over the energy they brought to the reception. It was not hard to jump at the chance when they asked me to be part of their wedding at the Culinary Institute in Napa Valley, CA over Valentine’s Day.
I think outsiders would feel that the wedding of a couple of math/physics Ph.D’s would be a bit stiff, maybe a bit boring. I can say it was the exact opposite. Everything from the permanent smile on Lera’s face, to the truly poetic vows (and I can say Shor’s vow’s were perhaps the most poetic and well delivered vows I’ve heard), to the intense party we had at the reception – all gave undeniable proof that there was no place you would rather be on Valentine’s Day than at this wedding.
Highlights included: Shor’s family bringing the Southern tradition of burying a fifth of whiskey to California. The awesome seating cards, which required guests to solve mathematical problems to find their seats (all problems designed by both Shor & Lera). The awesome band, Cover Me Badd – which was cool enough to let Shor get his old band back together and bang out a few hits for the crowd. And of course, seeing old friends like Grayden & Zach and Shor & Grayden’s mom & sister.
I had an amazing time with Shor & Lera, the bridal party, and meeting Lera’s family. If we could do it all again, we would. But I’ll settle for food & drinks in NYC. Congratulations to Shor & Lera, and let’s check out the photos:
